Home from Home
Fostering independence and friendships
Staff and Teachers build positive, respectful relationships with the students, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear whenever needed. A key focus of the boarding experience is fostering independence and the development of positive friendships among students. Students are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their personal routines, belongings, and daily choices in a supportive and age-appropriate manner. Clear expectations and a strong sense of community help create stability and reassurance, while individual needs are recognised and responded to with care. Living and learning together provides valuable opportunities for students to form strong friendships, develop social skills, and learn the importance of cooperation, empathy, and respect for others. Through shared activities, structured routines, students build confidence, resilience, and a strong sense of community, helping them to grow both personally and socially during their time away from home.
About Home From Home
Accommodation
There are two separate dormitory areas on different floors one for boys and one for girls. The dormitories are sub-divided into cubicles consisting of a single bed, locker and a wardrobe. Students bring their own bed linen as well as posters, photographs and other mementos – all which serve to make their space ‘home from home’ At the request of parents we do our utmost to accommodate friends in the same dormitory.
After school activities
We recognise the importance of organised, creative, leisure time and with this in mind our whole concept of cluichí agus caitheamh aimsire is based on full participation by all our pupils – buachaillí agus cailíní. Every effort is made to encourage the children to realise their own abilities in recreational pursuits whether indoor, outdoor, in groups, on teams or in solo events.
Friendships
Children at Coláiste na Rinne forge special friendships during the course of this formative year – many of which last a life time. One parent wrote “I am so pleased that my daughter decided to go to Coláiste na Rinne. It has been a marvellous adventure and she has made wonderful friends from all over Ireland.” Martha
Health Eating Policy
Produce is sourced locally, prepared freshly each day on site and menus are frequently rotated. Children are offered choices at each meal and options are carefully constructed with health, well-being and enjoyment in mind. We also cater for the dietary needs of pupils with allergies etc. in close cooperation with parents/guardians.
