Primary and Secondary Schools

Welcome

You are very welcome to Coláiste na Rinne where short courses for primary and secondary schools are organised. Emphasis is placed on spoken Irish among the scoláirí throughout their visit. A programme is prepared in consultation with the school, and scoláirí are encouraged to speak Irish while here.

Accommodation and Food

A day trip or residential trip can be organised. Residential students will have their accommodation and meals in Coláiste na Rinne. Students are accommodated in dormitories, with boys on one floor and girls on another. The dormitories are divided into smaller units with two scoláirí sharing a cubicle.

Healthy food is very important to us at Coláiste na Rinne. Ingredients are sourced locally and meals are prepared freshly each day on site. We also cater for the specific dietary needs of our students. Separate accommodation which is suitable for adults on the Coláiste campus is provided free of charge for teachers.

History

Coláiste na Rinne was informally established in 1903 when visitors to the area, largely from Dublin, displayed an interest in learning Irish. Pádraig Ó Cadhla, an organiser for Conradh na Gaeilge secured a grant to establish summer classes in 1903.

The Coláiste was formally established in 1905 and from there the teaching of Irish in Gaeltacht na nDéise has continued to flourish to this day.
Today Coláiste na Rinne, standing on a 25 acre campus, is a centre for education. It offers a wide range of classes and cultural experiences to learners and visitors of all ages, from all over the world.
